How To Use As Many Photos As You Like In Your eBay Listing WITHOUT Paying Additional Listing Fees

http://www.sitepronews.com

If you’ve listed products on eBay without a photo and successfully sold them – don’t be fooled into thinking you don’t need a photo. You would almost certainly have got more bidders, and therefore probably a higher selling price, with a photo.
If your eBay listing doesn’t have a photo and your competitor does, you will lose out. If you don’t have a photo, potential buyers will be sceptical or suspicious. They will think that you either don’t really have the item for sale or you have got something to hide, i.e. it’s not in very good condition. Without a photo, your listing will not look professional which will damage your business image.
Your listing MUST have a good quality digital photo of your item. If you are selling new products, the manufacturer or your supplier may have photos that you can use. But you must check that you are allowed to use them. Otherwise you could be prosecuted, or at least have your listing removed. Also, if you use the manufacturer’s photo, all your competitors may be using the same photo, so your listing won’t stand out.
Often, when people are just selling stuff from around the house, they will use any old snapshot of the item and you can see all sorts of domestic mess in the background. This is not good enough if you want to run a successful and profitable business on eBay. A good photo will increase the perceived value of your item and attract higher bids. A poor photo will cheapen your item.

Censor Your Images With A Mosaic In Photoshop

http://www.pheedcontent.com

You frequently see censored images in newspapers, magazines and on the television. Pixelation is most often used to blur out the features of people to preserve their privacy. Whether it’s to protect the children of celebrities, a car number plate or a person’s private parts that have wrestled their way out of their clothes, there is a Photoshop filter to help censor those images. Here’s a really quick way to give your images that censored look using the Pixelate filter in Photoshop.
1. Open up the image that you want to censor. I’m using a wallpaper of the movie poster for Leap Year which I downloaded from MovieWallpaper.net. I don’t know anything about the movie, I was just looking for an image with a couple of faces in it.

2. Draw a circular selection around the man’s face using the Elliptical Marquee tool (M).

3. Press Ctrl + J (win) or Cmd + J (Mac) to duplicate and copy the selection onto a new layer.

4. With the new layer selected, choose Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic. This opens the Mosaic dialog box. Make sure the Preview check box is selected so you can see how the image will be affected.

The possiblity of bad code

http://www.webdevforums.com

Hi All,

I have a website up that is an ecommerce site. The programmer I used to create the site was a great coder but not the best designer. I am now working with a web designer who is adding a fresh new design to the site but I'm not convinced of his coding abilities as there have been more than several mistakes (quite a lot actually) made that I have caught in my testing.

I am not skilled in coding whatsoever and unfortunately, I don't even have a basic understanding of it so please excuse the potential stupidity of the following query. My question is this.......If everything tests okay on the test site and all the functions are working properly, does that mean that the code is good and solid OR is there such a thing as coding in a way that it holds together only temporarily? I don't really understand the concept of why coding fails in the first place. Basically I'm wanting to know the answer to this question so that I can either relax when it's finally uploaded to my site (or not relax depending on the feedback I get here).

We're getting close to completion and I'm starting to freak about the upload. I'm petrified that there might be a potential of it messing up my site in any way :eek2:.

Thanks so much in advance.

Poll: Do you decorate your website for the holidays?

http://webdesign.about.com

Back when I worked at NETCOM, I used to manage the "Homeport" and for Halloween one year I decided to create a "Haunted Homeport". Random customers would see the same content as the normal homeport, but decked out for Halloween. I added all the spooky elements: blood, ghosts, zombies, black cats, and so on. But I admit I was a little afraid to do it for everyone, thus the randomizer. When our Vice President came over to my co-worker's cube demanding to know "what was up with the Homeport" I had to chime in and admit that I was the one who had done it. I thought my job was done for. He turns around and, beaming, says "I LOVE IT! Why didn't you set it up to be 100% of the time rather than having to reload it at random?" And so we started decorating the Homeport every Halloween.
Lots of sites decorate for the holidays. Google is probably best known for their holiday logos - and they decorate for some relatively obscure ones. Do you decorate your site for the holidays? Why or why not? What are your favorite holidays to decorate for? Share your thoughts in the comments. And have a Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Cms

http://www.webdevforums.com

Hi, I dont know if this is the right place to post this or not, so apologies if its not.

I've got some knowledge of PHP and mySQL and am looking to further that more with a bit of a challenege, im looking at creating a website that will allow me to update pages and upload files from one central area - so basically a CMS. Im essentially, just wondering if anybody knows of any decent tutorials with how to create something similar to what i want. I'd prefer it if the tutorial was in video form, but thats not the end of the world if its not. A few tutorials that ive found aren't the best so i figured i'd try a forum to see if anybody knows of anything thats available on the net.

if anyone could point me in the right direction of one, that'd be great.

Thanks!

Show/hide div on page load

http://www.webdevforums.com

Hi all,

I was just wondering how I could show/hide certain divs on loading a new page of my website. Here is what I'm after:

I have a menu that is added to each page of my site via a dreamweaver library. Some of the pages have sub pages, and the way I'd like for those sub links to be displayed is that when a user is on a page with sub pages, there is a tree like structure that reveals under the menu option for the page that the user is on.
Best way to describe would be via an example:
Say I have 5 pages, page 1, page 2 etc.
One page 2, there is sub pages, Page 2a, Page 2b, Page 2c.
When the user clicks onto the link in the menu for page 2, I would like page 2 to load (as it has unique content on it), and then the div that will house the links to the sub page will become visible in the menu structure, under directly under the link for Page 2 (I will use a css class to style it differently with a smaller font to make it obvious that these are sub pages).
For this to work for navigation between websites, I'd also need to set the other sub page divs to hidden, so that there isn't any confusion. The result i'm after is the main link (which will toggle visibility) will also link to page 2.

How could I go about doing this?

If what I'm after isn't very understandable, please let me know and I'll try and give a clearer example

Thanks in advance :)

Denno.

How to Increase Profits Without Raising Your Rates in 2010

http://www.pheedcontent.com

The start of a new year is exciting; the sense of possibility about what the year will hold can be invigorating. We don’t know what the next year will bring, but now is the time we hope and plan for big things to happen. One of the most common hopes for a new year is to be more profitable. Usually, a rate increase is one of the best ways to make that hope a reality.
But for many, the end of 2009 won’t result in a boost in pricing, due to a number of factors. So does this mean if you’re not raising your rates, you’re stuck at the same level of profitability over the coming year? Of course not! There are ways to increase your profits other than raising your rates…here are a few.
Cut Expenses
Make the coming year a time for getting on top of your business expenses. You will have to gather your financial data anyway in order to file your taxes, so take some time to analyze where you spent the most over the past year and consider what can be cut. Some possibilities may include monthly services, telephone service, and online memberships.
Outsource Administrative Work
It may seem counterproductive, but you can increase your bottom like by outsourcing some of the day-to-day activities that bog you down and don’t directly bring in income. Consider a bookkeeper to handle your monthly invoicing, or a virtual assistant to manage your marketing campaign.

6 Website Redesign SEO Secrets Your Developer May Not Know

http://www.sitepronews.com

At the end of the year, many businesses start to think about redesigning their tired old website to breathe some new life into it. You may even be in the midst of a website redesign right now. If so, the first thing is to make sure you hire a design and development company that knows how to build the infrastructure of the website in a search engine crawler–friendly manner.
Beyond that, you need to address a number of additional SEO tactics before you get too deep into your redesign. The reason you need to keep SEO front and center during this time is twofold: so that you do not lose your previous traffic, but also so that you can gain additional targeted search engine visitors when the new site goes live.
Here are 6 SEO redesign secrets your developer may not know…ignore them at your own peril!
1. Creating Your SEO’d Site Architecture
Search engines look explicitly at how all your pages are linked together in order to determine their place within the site. Pages that are linked from every other page will be given more weight than those that are only linked from a few others. This is all considered a form of internal link popularity, or in Google language, internal PageRank.
Recommendation: During your redesign, don’t bury too deeply within the site any content that was previously bringing targeted search engine traffic. Ensure that any informational content that will be focused on the more competitive keyword phrases (for example, product and service pages) is high up in your site hierarchy.

Check the Rear-View Mirror Before Proceeding into 2010

http://www.pheedcontent.com

When we’re busy with work, we are so focused on the projects we are working on and the relationships we’re building that sometimes the back-end administration side of business gets forgotten. Taking time for an annual end-of-the-year review is one of best ways to make sure your business is functioning well behind the scenes and to improve processes so you can be even more successful next year.
Things to Consider During a Year-End Review
Here are some of the most important areas to consider when you start your year-end review.

Client Contracts
– No matter how long you’ve been in business and how solid your work agreement is, you should always give it a review, at least once a year. Look for outdated terms, new company policies, and the overall content. If it has been a long time since you’ve had an attorney review your agreement, now may be the time.
Open Projects - As you’re reviewing your standard contracts, you’ll also want to be aware of all of your open projects, including what work needs to be completed, timelines and other obligations. And then follow up with your clients as necessary to keep the work on target.

How to properly update your website?

http://www.webdevforums.com

Hi, I was wondering how you're supposed to properly update your website. I've got a testing site where I can edit pages and stuff like that when adding new features, but what do you do if your actual site changes. Ex: You copy the files for your website to your testing server and work on them, but someone else uploads a file to your real website before you re-upload your new site. Their files they uploaded will be overwritten. Hopefully this makes sense. What's the best way to do this? Thanks for your help!

The 10 Biggest SEO Myths Exposed

http://www.sitepronews.com

Cutting Rank: Improper Domain Name Redirects
Let’s face it, compiling a list of this type is always subjective. Trying to figure out what to include and what to leave off can have you second-guessing yourself, more than a few times.
But in the end, being only human, you do the best you can, and let the readers judge for themselves. Anyway, I present to you my listing of “The 10 Biggest SEO Myths Exposed.”
1. Search Engine Optimization will put you on the first page of Google.
This is without question the biggest SEO myth floating around the Internet today. Here’s the truth: SEO is a tool – nothing more. And any tool is only as good as the person using it. That’s why some people have success with SEO, and others don’t.
Can SEO help get your website on Google’s first page? If the person doing the optimizing is competent, sure, it can help. But it’s far from guaranteed.
Here’s why: There are far too many variables that are involved in the ranking of a website – not the least of which are the age of the domain, relevancy and quantity of quantity of content, number and quality of inbound links, competition, and of course Google’s ever-changing algorithms.
2. Getting on the first page of Google will guarantee your success.
This is false. Let me tell you something: Getting on the first page of Google guarantees absolutely nothing!

How to Beat Procrastination Once and For All

http://www.pheedcontent.com

Procrastination gets the best of all of us, even if it’s infrequently. Sometimes, there are simply things we don’t want to do, have built unrealistic expectations around, or overwhelm us to the point of immobility. And when it hits, procrastination can develop into a cycle that preys on emotional insecurities and lack of motivation.
If you’re able to anticipate procrastination, its possible to use it to your advantage and increase your productivity by applying strategies like structured procrastination. But while procrastination isn’t always negative and can actually help us get more done, its undeniable that some of us manage it better than others.
Not only can unconstructive procrastination diminish your ability to meet deadlines and fulfill responsibilities, but it can also create stress, reduce confidence and cause disappointment. If you’re one who has an adversarial relationship with procrastination, here are some ways you can battle and conquer it for good.
Use Time to Your Advantage
Time and procrastination go hand-in-hand, and there are ways to manipulate time to your advantage when it comes to succumbing to procrastination. If you find that you’re procrastinating on minor everyday activities (like getting up on time and being punctual for meetings), try setting your clock 10 minutes ahead.

Principles Of Design: Color

http://www.pheedcontent.com

Over the past five weeks I’ve written about simple principles you can employ to improve your designs, namely Contrast, Proximity, Balance and Value. In this final part of the series we’re looking at color. Color in design is a huge topic in itself and I will undoubtedly return to it in future blog posts, but for today let’s take a look at how you can use color schemes when creating a mood for your design.
Color is an integral part of our lives. Nature uses color to warn off potential predators, to attract pollinators, to attract mates and to show fruit is ready for eating. Anyone who drives a car in a city follows traffic rules defined by red, green and amber, no text necessary. In advertising and design, color is used to grab attention and stimulate interest in ways that would be difficult to create by any other means.  Through history color has been used to indicate status, for example nobility and royalty is associated with purple, and color has been an important source of symbolism in many countries.

Something’s not quite right here.

Affiliate Marketing – 5 Reasons To Use Squidoo

http://www.sitepronews.com

An affiliate marketer has to have certain things. I consider it very important to have a web page where you can put your offers and content.
Then you can just get down to driving traffic to your site, making sales, and earning money.
Still, the beginning affiliate marketer and perhaps even some intermediates, would like it to be low priced and more straightforward than the typical setup.
Take as an example the mass of web pages called Squidoo.
It’s really just another website except for it’s size and variety of content. It’s VERY well known at Google.
By the end of 2009 there were nearly a million individual pages on this huge website and those pages are called “lenses” by the “Squids.”
Here are 5 good reasons to use Squidoo as an affiliate marketer.
The first reason is your cost for the hosting space. It’s zero.
The second reason is the cost of registering a domain name. It’s zero too!
Squidoo loks good because it’s practically effortless, AND it’s very low cost, especially when compared to the typical cost of hosting and domain at about $100 to $130 per year.
That doesn’t sound like much, and it isn’t if your site is making money or if you just have plenty of it. But for affiliates who are just starting and a lot of intermediates too, it’s just perfect.
